Redesign of an iconic TIE Fighter based on a great brief provided by Michal Kus and Darek Zabrocki for Focal Point School contest.
The Empire started mass production of their new standard issue TIE Fighter after they got back control over the galaxy 200 years after second Death Star was destroyed. They rule for 100 years now and they are not going to stop anytime soon...
My aim was to follow the brief as closely as possible (so making a TIE Fighter in the future), but without sacrificing a Star Wars visual language and vibe. In the lore, regular TIE fighters was very nimble and quick starfighters with a downside of not having shield generators or the hyperdrive.. but they were very easy and cheap to built so they often overpowered opponents with sheer numbers. In my design the Empire upgraded the TIE fighters with better engines, that are capable of traveling in lightspeed. I addition to that the vehicle have better visibility from the cockpit, lighter side panels, better weight distribution and more room inside. Also the Empire is now working more on the ground, keeping the "peace" so air support in the atmosphere is more frequently needed. This TIE fighter is more aerodynamic in that sense, which keep the maintenance costs low.
Based on the Star Wars universe created by George Lucas and owned by Disney.
